This course is open to students on the college level in either the freshman or sophomore year and to area high school vocational students who are accepted into the Carpentry/Construction Technology program.
Catalog Description:
CST 3276 - CARPENTRY AND CONSTRUCTION SKILLS APPLICATIONS II (3 hrs.)
This course continues to build on construction skills through hands-on applications based on the NCCER Advanced Carpentry curriculum. Students will engage in practical activities to enhance their proficiency in key construction areas. This course ensures that students not only grasp theoretical knowledge but also apply practical construction skills in a supervised, hands-on learning environment, preparing them for success in the construction industry.

CST 3266 Carpentry II with a C or higher
Controlling Purpose:
This course focuses on continual practice of advanced carpentry and construction skills through project-based learning. Students will actively engage in hands-on projects based on individual skillsets to improve knowledge and understanding gained in earlier courses, enhancing their proficiency in carpentry and construction trades.
Learner Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- Apply practical skills in construction fundamentals.
- Apply theoretical knowledge to supervised, real-world construction scenarios.
- Continue to develop proficiency in various construction techniques.
- Demonstrate understanding and adherence to safety protocols.

UNIT 1: Construction skills application
Outcomes: Continue to develop skills using appropriate materials and equipment.
Upon completion of the unit, the student will be able to:
- Compare and contrast essential construction skills.
- Apply basic tools and equipment.
- Properly operate construction tools.
- Apply safety protocols in construction.
- Use construction tools and equipment in a contextual environment.
- Perform maintenance and practice the proper care of tools.
- Discuss different building materials and their uses.
- Read and interpret construction drawings.
- Incorporate materials and drawings into projects.
- Continue to enhance other skills under supervision based on NCCER General Carpentry curriculum with a hands-on approach.

Course Time Frame:
The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
