ART2147 SCULPTURE II

This course is open to students on the college level in either the Freshman or Sophomore year and to area high school vocational students.
Catalog Description:
ART 2147 - Sculpture II (3 hrs.)
This is a studio course designed for students who wish to further explore and gain proficiency in sculpture design, methods, and techniques. This course focuses on further development of the skills and aesthetics relating to the different materials and processes used in creating sculpture.

Controlling Purpose:
Sculpture is designed for those who have had some previous experience in art but it is not mandatory. This is an exploration of the principles and elements of design as applied to three-dimensional forms.
Learner Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to display the ability to transform a two dimensional into a three dimensional design.

UNIT 1: Introduction
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to explain the principles of 3-dimensional design.
- Understand the purpose of 3-dimensional design.
- Become familiar with the elements of design.
- Be able to understand the principles of design.
UNIT 2: Assemblage
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to successfully design and build sculptures using a variety of techniques.
- Apply principles of design and execute in 3-dimensional.
- Describe how to assemble art forms.
- Resolve problems in 3-dimensional sculpture.

Course Time Frame:
The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
