AGR1256 RECORD MANAGEMENT

3 Credit Hours

This course is open to all students.

Catalog Description:

AGR1256 - Record Management (3 hrs.)

An introduction to different record keeping techniques used in breeding, production, financial and general book keeping on a farm or ranch.

Controlling Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to give the agricultural student a good grasp of record keeping skills.

Learner Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Identify different record keeping systems.
  2. Recognize and defend the importance of accurate record keeping.
  3. Demonstrate basic knowledge of different record systems to be used in each scenario.
  4. Demonstrate basic knowledge of technological record keeping, written records, and data entry for both systems.

Unit Outcomes for Criterion Based Evaluation:

The following outline defines the minimum core content not including the final examination period. Instructors may add other material as time allows.

UNIT 1: Introduction to Record Keeping

Outcomes: Student will identify different record keeping systems.

  • Identify various record keeping systems and methods.
  • Define the usage of various different record systems
  • Identify the difference between a pedigree system and financial system

UNIT 2: Animal Record Keeping

Outcomes: Student will recognize and defend the importance of accurate record keeping.

  • Explain the importance of pedigree records.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of performance records.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of financial record keeping.
  • Identify and explain data entry positions.
  • Employ EPD Data Entry.
  • Demonstrate actual performance records entry.
  • Complete financial data entry.
  • Demonstrate the identification of production records, and proper entry.

UNIT 3: Agronomy Record Keeping

Outcomes: Demonstrate basic knowledge of different record systems to be used in each scenario.

  • Perform production data collection.
  • Explain the necessity of fertilizer and insecticide usage data keeping.
  • Perform crop rotation data entry.
  • Complete financial data entry.
  • Explain the necessity of equipment maintenance and fuel usage data.

UNIT 4: Utilization of Data

Outcomes: Students will demonstrate basic knowledge of technological record keeping, written records, and data entry for both systems.

  • Demonstrate and perform interpretation of data entry into a computer system.
  • Discuss and demonstrate knowledge of written data entry.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of acronyms and symbols of data entry.

Course Time Frame:

The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college.  A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time.  The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
