THE2730 - Theatre Appreciation 3 hour(s) Elective Type: Humanities Elective Kansas Regents Shared Number: [KRSN THT1010] Description The goal of this course is to create an interest in and appreciation of the exciting world of theatre. No theatre background is necessary and the students are not required to perform. Units of study include theatre history, acting as a profession, the Greek, Roman and Shakespeare influences, as well as the technical and backstage aspect of theatre. Attendance and evaluation of a live theatre performance is a requirement for successfully completing the class. Emphasis is placed on appreciation of theatre as a collaborative art and will fulfill three hours of humanities credit towards graduation.

THE2736 - Voice and Diction 3 hour(s) Elective Type: Elective Kansas Regents Shared Number: [KRSN THT 1050] Schedule Note: Spring only Description This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of vocal use for the stage and screen. Students will develop techniques to expand breath support, vocal range and dynamics; learn precise articulation and speech practices; discover vocal anatomy; and introduce implementation of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Through this course students will develop their own progression of vocal exercises for practical application.

THE2740 - Theatre Portfolio 2 hour(s) Elective Type: Elective Description Students will develop portfolio materials appropriate for transfer, internship, and employment opportunities in theatre arts. Students will focus on their specific area of specialization (performance, design, arts management). Students will meet two hours each week for lecture, classroom activities, and peer critique. This course requires substantial out-of-class work and reliable internet access.
Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing; six credit hours of prior coursework in THE, MUS, DAN, or Dramatic Literature, or permission of the instructor.

THE2749 - Advanced Stagecraft 3 hour(s) Elective Type: Elective Schedule Note: Spring only Description This course explores the application of many technical theatre skills in professional settings outside of a traditional theatre. The bulk of the course is built around a design and fabrication project for a local non- profit or Cowley-linked office, organization, or facility. Specific fabrication and design skills and techniques utilized will vary depending on the needs of the project. Additionally, students investigate careers in the design and fabrication of user-interactive performative spaces, and methods of marketing their technical theatre skills in non-theatre settings.

WEL3613 - Shielded Metal Arc Welding/Structural 3 hour(s) Elective Type: Technical Elective Special Funding Identifier: KS Excel in CTE Initiative Schedule Note: Fall only Description Students in this course receive instruction and gain the necessary skills to produce sound welds on ferrous structural shapes in various positions. Students will prepare a number of different joint configurations used in industry. Welds will be made with several different electrodes using the Shielded Metal Arc welding equipment.

WEL3644 - Special Alloy Welding/Inspection 6 hour(s) Elective Type: Technical Elective Special Funding Identifier: KS Excel in CTE Initiative Schedule Note: Spring only Description Upon completion of this course a student will be able to successfully produce documentation of test specimens and compare that information to codes and standards to determine component usability. Students are expected to become proficient in the identification of various common alloys and apply precautions in selecting correct filler metals for welding. Students will be introduced to automated shape cutting and become familiar with working with images, designing shapes and dimensioning, editing cut paths and cutting parts using plasma arc cutting equipment.
