Catalog Description:
AMP3363 - Fuel Systems & Metering II (3hrs.)
This course introduces the student to the operating principles of reciprocating and turbine engine fuel systems, fuel metering systems, and their components. Students will learn to inspect, troubleshoot, and service fuel metering systems and engine fuel systems, this course is the second in a two-course series.

Prerequisites: AMP3362- Fuel Systems & Metering I with a 70% or better.
Controlling Purpose:
As part of the Aviation Mechanic - Powerplant program as outlined by the FAA Part 147 document, a minimum of 750 hours of Powerplant Curriculum training is required. The structure of this course, part two in a two-part series, is designed to provide a portion of the minimum of 103 hours of Fuel Metering Systems and Engine Fuel Systems curriculum as outlined in Appendix D to Part 147 - General Curriculum Subjects.
Learner Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot and repair reciprocating and turbine engine fuel metering systems.
- Repair engine fuel system components.
- Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot and repair engine fuel systems.

UNIT 1: Engine Fuel Metering Systems
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to successfully inspect, check, service, troubleshoot and repair reciprocating and turbine engine fuel metering systems.
- Inspect, service, troubleshoot and repair constant flow fuel injection systems
- Inspect, service, troubleshoot, repair float carburetor systems
- Diagram turbine engine fuel metering and water injection systems
- Inspect, service, troubleshoot and repair turbine fuel metering systems
UNIT 2: Fuel System Components
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to successfully demonstrate how to repair engine fuel system components.
- Inspect and service engine fuel strainers
- Inspect and repair engine primer systems
- Inspect and service engine fuel heaters
UNIT 3: Fuel System Repair
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to successfully inspect, check, service, troubleshoot and repair fuel systems.
- Overhaul an engine fuel pump
- Test and adjust an engine fuel pump
- Demonstrate fuel management transfer and defueling

Course Time Frame:
The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
