Cowley College awards the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of General Studies, Associate of Fine Arts, and the Associate of Applied Science degrees, as well as the College Certificate.
Those receiving the associate degree are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate both orally and in writing, possess knowledge of mathematics and the physical world, and be aware of past and present cultures.
It is the student’s responsibility to see that graduation requirements are met. Students who intend to transfer are responsible for becoming acquainted with the program and degree requirements of the institution to which they expect to transfer.
As a transfer institution Cowley College offers the above stated degrees. However, because the Associate Degree is a not awarded in a specific major with the exception of Associate of Applied Science and Technical Certificates, students may be awarded only one Associate Degree in each of the following types: AA, AS, AFA.
Associate of Arts , Associate of Science , (AFA) Associate of Fine Arts (Liberal Studies) , and Associate of General Studies degrees are awarded when a student completes a minimum of 62 credit hours and has a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher on all course work (including transfer hours) in an approved educational program.
If a student does not maintain continuous enrollment (excludes summer), the student will be required to follow the graduation requirements that are in effect at the time of re-enrollment.
In order to qualify for either the degree or certificate at Cowley College, a student must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours at this institution which count toward the degree or certificate they are pursuing.
Courses designated as developmental level cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.
The Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees as outlined on the program of study will meet the Cowley College degree requirements but may not meet all of the general education requirements of the Transfer and Articulation Agreement outlined by the Kansas Board of Regent Universities. Additional Social Science, Humanities or Lab Science coursework may be required to meet the Regent’s minimum requirements.
An Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded when a student completes the minimum number of credit hours outlined on the approved program of study and has a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher on all course work (including transfer hours).
If a student has not been enrolled continuously (excluding summer) and returns to complete an AAS degree they will be required to follow the graduation requirements that are in effect at the time of re-enrollment.
If the student has worked in the trade, they can apply for Life Experience credit. Students may complete a competency test for vocational class credit and pay the appropriate fees. Test fees are $50.00 per test.
Technical Certificates are awarded when a student completes the specified course requirements for each vocational certificate program and has a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher on all course work. If the student does not maintain continuous enrollment (excludes summer) in courses for the technical certificate, the student will be required to follow the graduation requirements that are in effect at the time of re-enrollment.
