COS5105 - Cosmetology I

Schedule Note: Fall only
Description Instruction consists of 375 clock hours in professional development and effective communications, human relations, microbiology, infection control procedures, and guidelines as well as first aid procedures for the industry. Sanitary rules and regulations governing the cosmetology profession are taught. Students will also perform services in client consultation using design decisions considerations, selecting the correct hairstyle to fit the client using design principles and elements, scalp and hair analysis, shampooing, conditioning, scalp treatments, and hair cutting by length arrangements and design principles. Long hair design techniques will also be included in the class.

Prerequisite(s): An applicant must have attained the age of 17 years and be a graduate of an accredited high school, or have passed the GED (General Education Development) test.  Additionally, student must meet or exceed minimum reading score of 255 according to the ACCUPLACER Next Gen Reading test or ACT Reading score of 18 or higher; Associate degree or higher required to waive the reading test. 

 

NOTE: The dual enrolled high school program also requires an applicant to be at least 17 years of age at time of admission.
