 KANSAS PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBLE PROGRAM   


The Medical Coding Associate of Applied Science degree will prepare the student to enter the workforce as an entry-level medical coder. The well-qualified medical coder will gain proficiency in medical code sets and will be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). The medical coder will also gain proficiencies in written and oral communications, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software programs. Professionalism and adaptability are also emphasized in the program, as employers seek employees who demonstrate these qualities.

The Cowley College Medical Coding program is in alignment with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP code 51.0713: Medical Insurance Coding Specialist/Coder. A program that prepares individuals to perform specialized data entry, classification, and record-keeping procedures related to medical diagnostic, treatment, billing, and insurance documentation. Includes instruction in medical records and insurance software applications, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, fundamentals of medical science and treatment procedures, data classification and coding, data entry skills, and regulations relating to Medicare and insurance documentation.
