Phlebotomy

 KANSAS PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBLE PROGRAM   

 

This course is designed to help the student increase their knowledge concerning an overview of the principles and practice of phlebotomy. As a member of the health care delivery team, the phlebotomist generally works in a clinical laboratory under the supervision of the appropriate technologist. The phlebotomist is primarily responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. The course will emphasize safety, specimen collection (venipuncture and capillary puncture) and specimen processing. Students will learn the basic skills required to collect a blood specimen. This course includes both classroom and clinical portions and prepares the student for certification as a phlebotomist. the student for certification as a phlebotomist.
