Medical Transcription Degree Pathway (AAS)

NOTE: NO NEW ENROLLMENTS ARE BEING TAKEN FOR THIS PROGRAM FOR THE 2018-19 YEAR.  Students currently in the program will be able to continue in required coursework this year. 

The Medical Transcription Associate of Applied Science degree will prepare the student to enter the workforce as an entry- level medical transcriptionist. The well-qualified transcriptionist will also gain proficiencies in written and oral communications, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software programs. Students will acquire skills in proofreading, document formatting, computations, and administrative support. Professionalism and flexibility are also stressed in the program, as employers are looking for employees who exhibit these characteristics. “Students should take ALH1660 Medical Transcription and then take ALH5248 Medical Transcription Field Work Experience during a later semester. These courses should NOT be taken in the same semester.”

Depending on the individual student’s skill level and assessment scores, students may be required to take the necessary basic skill (Keyboarding and/or Basic Document Formatting) or prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the program.
