The Medical Coding Associate of Applied Science degree will prepare the student to enter the workforce as an entry-level medical coder. The well-qualified medical coder will gain proficiencies in different levels of medical coding and will be prepared to sit for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials. The medical coder will also gain proficiencies in written and oral communications, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software programs. Professionalism and flexibility are also stressed in the program, as employers are looking for employees who exhibit these characteristics.
