This program provides the student with the entry-level skills required to become an automotive technician. The motor vehicle repair industry has taken on a new sophistication. It requires advanced technical training, strong communication skills, computer literacy, electrical/electronic background, mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity skills. Students graduating with a certificate may use the certificate as partial fulfillment of the associate degree. The two-year certificate and Associate of Applied Science degree cover the eight major areas of brakes, suspension and steering, manual transmissions, automatic transmission, electrical/electronics, heating and air conditioning, engine repair, and engine performance. Technicians may test and become ASE certified in all eight areas. Graduates may become service managers, service engineers, race team pit crewmembers, automotive writers, automotive technology instructors, service technicians, parts technicians, shop owners, and many other career opportunities.
