Theatre Transfer Pathway (AFA)

The Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree is designed to prepare students for transfer into a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree program at a 4-year college or university. Students have the opportunity to work with their advisor to select courses in their particular area of interest in Theatre which include Arts Management, Technology and Design, Performance or Musical Theatre.

General Education Requirements (32 hours)
Computer Literacy (3 hours)
Humanities (6 hours)
Complete 6 credits from two different disciplines from approved Courses. THE, LIT, ART or MUS are suggested. One elective should be Theatre Appreciation (THE2730).
NOTE: Music Appreciation (MUS2611) or Dramatic Literature (LIT2565) can fulfill Humanities elective if not used as a Theatre emphasis elective.
Social Sciences (6 hours)
Complete 6 credits from two different disciplines from approved . One elective should be General Psychology (PSY6711).
Fine Arts Pathway Electives (30 hours)
The Associate of Fine Arts degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of pathway electives. Students should work with their advisor and transfer institution to determine the most appropriate courses within the pathway required and elective blocks. Coursework may vary based upon the student’s area of interest in Theatre Arts Management, Theatre Performance, Theatre Technology and Design, and Musical Theatre.
Minimum Hours for a Degree 62*
*A minimum of 62 hours is required to earn a Cowley degree; however additional credit hours may be outlined on the transfer pathway to meet the program requirements for a transfer institution.
Depending on skill level and assessment scores, students may be required to take the necessary basic skill or prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the program courses.
