(AGS) Associate of General Studies Degree Pathway

The Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree is designed to provide students with the opportunity develop knowledge, skills, and greater philosophical appreciation for lifelong learning. Although many of the courses a student may complete may be considered general education transfer courses, the degree itself is not intended to be a full transfer degree into a four-year university program.

General Education Requirements (29 hours)


Computer Literacy (3 hours)


Complete CAP1516 Computer Applications or a course from Computer Literacy Elective  list.

Communication Options (3 hours)


Complete 3 credit hours from the listed courses.

Mathematics (3 hours)


Complete the minimum requirement of MTH4410 Intermediate Algebra or higher level math course.

Humanities Options (6 Credits)


Complete courses from 2 Different Departments (ART, FOL, HIS, HUM, LIT, MIN, MUS, PHO, REL, THE) - Studio and Performance courses cannot be included.

Social Science Options (6 Credits)


Complete courses from 2 Different Departments (ANT, ECO, GEG, POL, PSY, SOC).

Laboratory Sciences (5 hours)


Complete 5 credits of Lab Science from Lab Science Elective(s) .

Free Electives (33 Credits Required)


Complete at least 33 credits of college-level coursework to fulfill this requirement. Students should select courses that coincide with their interest area or select courses that provide them a wide-range of exposure to different disciplines.  For example, students who wish to focus on Leadership or Business areas, can select courses designated by the LED or BUS department code.  Students who hold a technical certificate can expand beyond the technical skills and complete additional general education credits to earn an Associate’s of General Studies degree.
