Technical Studies (AGS) Degree Pathway

The Associate of General Studies degree with an emphasis in Technical programs allows for students to transfer in 32 technical credits after completing an approved technical program with at least 600* Clock hours of acceptable technical courses from an accredited vocational technical school. An additional 30 credit hours of specific General Education requirements are required to obtain the Associate of General Studies degree, of which at least 15 credit hours must be completed at Cowley College. The Cowley Registrar will determine if the technical credit completed qualifies for this degree.
*Students completing a technical program with 525-599 Clock hours requirement would be allowed to transfer in a maximum of 26 technical credits and an additional 36 credit hours of General Education coursework would be needed to complete the AGS degree at Cowley College.

General Education Requirements (30-36 hours minimum)
Basic Skills - English, Communications and Math (12 hours)
Arts & Humanities (6 hours)
Complete 6 credits from 2 different disciplines of approved Humanities Elective(s) . (ART, COM,ENG, FOL, HIS, LIT, PHO, REL, THE). (PHO6460 - Ethics is preferred).
Students who may transfer to an Oklahoma University should complete a U.S. History course.
Social Sciences (6 hours)
Complete 6 credits from 2 different Departments from approved Social Science Elective(s) ANT, CRJ, ECO, GEG, MIN, POL, PSY, SOC).
Students who plan to transfer to an Oklahoma university should complete POL6611 - American National Government.
Additional Electives (1-7 hours)**
**Complete additional general education electives based on the number of technical credits awarded for previous technical program completion. (Minimum of one credit if 32 Technical credits have been awarded for approved technical programs with 600 Clock hours or more and complete at least 7 additional elective credits if 26 Technical credits have been awarded for approved technical programs with 525-599 clock hours.)
Core Technical Requirements (26-32 minimum)
32 Technical credits will be applied as meeting the Technical Requirements after evaluation and transfer from an accredited Vocational-Technical School for students who have completed an approved technical program with at least 600 clock hours or 26 Technical credit hours will be applied for students completing a program with 525-599 clock hours.
Total Hours 62 minimum
Depending on skill level and assessment scores, students may be required to take the necessary basic skill or prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the program.
