Agriculture Transfer Pathway (AS)

The Agriculture Pathway is designed for the student interested in transferring to a university to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in an Agriculture focused discipline. Many opportunities exist within the agriculture industry such as Agri-Business, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Soil or Grain Science, Food Science, etc.  Required science courses vary based on the major chosen at the university level. Students should work with their advisor to determine the coursework that should be completed for their specific area of concentration and their intended transfer institution.

Kansas General Education Core Requirements (35 hours)


Successfully completing 35 hours of approved coursework in the following designated categories will fulfill the requirements of meeting the Kansas System-wide General Education Core.

Basic Skills - English, Communications and Math (12 hours)


Complete 6 credits of English, 3 credits of Communications and at least 3 credits of a College-level Math course that’s most appropriate for the degree and transfer pathway.

Natural & Physical Laboratory Sciences (5 hours)


Complete 5 credits of Lab Science from approved Lab Science Elective(s). (BIO, CHM, GEO, PHS).  Biology or Chemistry should be completed for this pathway.

Social & Behavioral Sciences (6 hours)


Complete 6 credits from two different disciplines from approved Social Science Elective(s)  . (ANT, CRJ, ECO, GEG, MIN, POL, PSY, SOC).
Students should work with their advisor to select the appropriate electives based upon where they plan to transfer. K-State & Oklahoma State vary slightly in their recommendations.

 The following are recommended electives for this pathway: 

Arts & Humanities (6 hours)


Complete 6 credits from two different disciplines from approved Humanities Elective(s) . (ART, COM, ENG, FOL, HIS, LIT, MUS, PHO, REL, THE) - Studio and Performance courses cannot be included.

Students should work with their advisor to select the appropriate electives based upon where they plan to transfer. K-State & Oklahoma State vary slightly in their recommendations.

Additional Institution Core Requirements (6 hours)


To satisfy degree requirements to meet the Kansas system-wide general education core, complete 6 additional credits of approved electives in Math, Science, Social Science or Humanities applicable to the transfer pathway.

Pathway Electives (27 hours)


The Associate of Science degree requires a minimum of 27 hours of Pathwy Electives. Students should work with their advisor and transfer institution to determine the most appropriate courses to complete within this block. (A minimum of 15 hours must be completed with Science or Math coursework). The PSY6720 First Year Experience (FYE) course is recommended for all new students to Cowley.

The following courses are pathway electives all Agriculture students should complete. 

Minimum Hours for a Degree 62*


*A minimum of 62 hours is required to earn a Cowley degree; however additional credit hours may be outlined on the transfer pathway to meet the program requirements for a 4-year institution. 

Depending on skill level and assessment scores, students may be required to take the necessary basic skill or prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the program courses.
