Cowley College has nearly 600 courses approved by the Kansas Board of Regents which coincide with the many pathways and programs of study that lead towards a degree, vocational certificate, or industry recognized credential or skill. Cowley advisors will help you design a program to meet your educational and career goals.

Refer to the Cowley College “Programs (By Degree/Award) ” to determine the course requirements and recommended elective courses for each degree or certificate for each specified pathway. Not all courses are offered each semester. Students should visit with their advisor for information on courses that are offered on a rotational basis.  Kansas Regents System Wide Transfer Shared Number (KRSN)

Courses that currently have a Kansas Regents Shared Number (Common Course Numbers designated by the Kansas System Wide Transfer Course Matrix) are indicated by their associated KRSN number. The learning outcomes and competencies in these courses meet or exceed the learning outcomes and competencies specified by the Kansas Core Outcomes Groups project for these courses as approved by the Kansas Board of Regents. 

The Kansas Regents Transfer KS portal provides information on Systemwide Transfer (SWT) courses for Kansas public colleges and universities. Systemwide Transfer courses transfer to any Kansas public institution offering an equivalent course. The decision of lower division courses to count toward upper division credit hours is at the discretion of the receiving institution.

  • KS Excel in CTE Initiative - Identifies a course that qualifies for the State of Kansas Excel in CTE Initiative that provides free tuition to qualifying High School students in qualifying technical programs and courses.

    NOTE: Courses not listed as KS Excel in CTE Initiative allow High School students in Kansas and Oklahoma to qualify for the AcceleRATE which is a discounted flat-rate tuition amount for dual enrolled high school students. Some of the courses in technical programs fall under the AcceleRATE pricing and do not qualify for the Excel in CTE

    Description: This is the first course in the Advanced EMT (AEMT) technical curriculum and helps prepare the student for progression through the program. The student will develop fundamental depth and breadth in the principles and practice of AEMT-level patient care. Successfully completing this course and the other AEMT curriculum courses will prepare the student for Kansas and NREMT AEMT certification and to function as an AEMT.

    Description: This is the second course in the Advanced EMT (AEMT) technical curriculum and is comprised of hospital clinical rotations and capstone field internship.     Description: This course is designed to improve students’ reading, writing, and researching skills. Critical analysis of essays will be used to aid in developing students’ thinking, support of thesis and style. Students will be introduced to the basic components of research by writing a documented essay in MLA style. The emphasis is on fundamental principles of written English in structurally correct sentences, paragraphs, and expository themes.

    Prerequisite(s): Satisfactory assessment score and/or minimum of 20 on ACT, or a concurrent enrollment in EBE 2208  are required for enrollment. High school students should have senior standing to enroll in ENG2211 Composition I.

  • ENG2264 - Introduction to Screenwriting

    Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of screenwriting. The emphasis is to give an overall view of not only the basics of script writing, but to give a better understanding of film in general and how to apply it to creative writing. Critical analysis of movies will be used to aide students in the creation of original screenplays. Each student will learn to outline, draft, and pitch a professional body of work.

    Description: Focused Seminar is designed to encourage in-depth study of a particular genre of writing. Emphasis is focused on research, presentation, and writing within a specific genre. Genres vary according to student interest and instructor approval. This course should be taken the final semester of study and is required of all Creative Writing majors.

Reading and writing activities will be chosen to maximize student success and will be supplemented by grammar/mechanics exercises as needed.

Upon completion of the course, the student will develop competencies to increase understanding and skills in managing hazardous material releases, hazardous material decontamination, and personal protective equipment used during hazardous material incidents.

    Description: This class demonstrates that paper, cardboard and other types of typically flat media can be a 3-D design element to be considered during idea generation when problem-solving. Paper is not just a flat surface upon which a layout (concept + image, color and type) is applied. Students will fold, cut, score, emboss and create 3D designs, learn pop-up techniques, build boxes, as well as look at folders and binding presentations. Proper use of tools and hand skills are important as we measure, cut, piece and build items.

    Description: The course objectives and outcomes are met through the attendance of a KSHSAA approved Football Officiating Class with a minimum of 16 clock hours. Topics include: the rules of high school football; the legal, financial, and social responsibilities of becoming a high school football official; officiating positions; qualities of the outstanding football official. To receive college credit, workshop attendees must pass a final exam. Attendees will then be eligible to register with KSHSAA and complete the KSHSAA online exam to become an official. Note: Additional meetings over rules and regulations are required by KSHSAA to continue working as an official.
