An in-depth study of the outline and historical significance of world art from Prehistoric times up to the Renaissance in chronological order.

Controlling Purpose:
Art History is designed for those with limited exposure or without previous experience, but with a desire to develop a personal appreciation of art history. Students will be exposed to the history of art from Prehistoric through Renaissance in chronological order.
Learner Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to recognize the differences between the various direction art history has taken, to discover for themselves exactly why art history has responded to events of the time, to appreciate and to consciously attempt to understand the reasons for and the efforts required of a particular time in history.

UNIT 1: Introduction
Outcomes: Student will be able to explain the language of an artist.
- Identify the values of why we study art.
- Quote and explain the language of visual artist.
- Demonstrate clear recognition of stylistic terminology through oral participation.
UNIT 2: The Ancient World
Outcomes: Student will be able to identify groups.
- Summarize the difference between groups.
- Compare the different life styles.
- Evaluate the growth in the history timeline.
UNIT 3: The Christian World
Outcomes: Student will be able to understand art in the church.
- Analyze how religion has changed through art.
- Describe how the artist work with the church.
- Evaluate the influence of art work in the church.

Course Time Frame:
The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
