CIS1920 - Windows Server Advanced Networking (3 hrs.)
This course will introduce students to installing and configuring DNS, DHCP, IPAM, networking connectivity, remote access, core networking concepts, advanced network infrastructures, routing, distributed network solutions, and ISCSI networking.

Controlling Purpose:
This course covers the advanced configuration options to deploy, manage, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server. The course covers implement and configuration of Domain Name System (DNS), DHCP, IPAM, network connectivity, remote access, core networking concepts, advanced network infrastructure, routing, distributed network solutions, and ISCSI networking.

UNIT 2: Advanced DNS

- Describe the process of implementing DNS policy

- Describe DNS logging
- Define advanced options in a Domain Name Server
UNIT 3: Implementing DHCP and IPAM
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Implement DHCP on Windows Server
- Implement DHCP with failover
- Configure Dynamic Host Control Protocol
- Plan IP Address Management installation
- Provision IPAM and group policy deployment
- Implement IP Address Management
UNIT 4: Implement Network Connectivity and Remote Access
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Implement network connectivity solutions
- List supported Windows VPN authentication and encryption options
- Deploy Windows VPN
- Implement network policy server into remote access
- Describe Always On Windows VPN
- Implement Virtual Private Networks
UNIT 5: Implement Core Networking
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Define IPv4 configuration
- Implement IPv4 configuration
- Define IPv6 configuration
- Implement IPv6 configuration
- Explain BGP and routing
- Install Data Deduplication

UNIT 6: Implement an Advanced Network Infrastructure
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Implement high performance network solutions
- Determine scenarios and requirements for implementing Software Defined Networking (SDN)
- Define Switch Embedded Teaming (SET)
- Receive side scaling
- Explore Data Center Bridging
- Define Virtual Machine Queue NICs
- Configure NICs
UNIT 7: Routing with Windows Server
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Create static routes on a Windows Server
- Add routing to DHCP implementations
- Turn a Windows Server into a basic router
- Explain Network Address Translation uses and meaning
- Use a Windows Server as a NATing router
- Configure routing and remote access
UNIT 8: Distributed Network Solutions
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Install Distributed File System (DFS)
- Configure DFS name server
- Deploy DFS replication
- Explain storage replica options
- Define branch cache
- Implement DFS and branch cache
UNIT 9: ISCSI Networking
Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:
- Define ISCSI targeting
- Configure ISCSI initiator
- Encrypt using Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol
- Map drives to an ISCSI target
- Deploy ISCSI

Course Time Frame:
The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
