CAP1556 - MICROSOFT 365 PRODUCTIVITY APPS

This course is open to students on the college level in either the Freshman or Sophomore year.

Catalog Description:

CAP1556 - Microsoft 365 Productivity Apps (1 hr.)

This course is designed for students who wish to gain a foundational understanding of productivity apps that go beyond, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. During this course students will learn to compose and send email, schedule appointments and meetings, explore the advanced features of Microsoft Outlook, and keep files protected and accessible from any device. Students will use Microsoft Teams to collaborate, organize, and connect all in one place. Create a digital notebook using OneNote. Students will also explore additional apps including but not limited to: Microsoft Loop, Sway, SharePoint, and Stream.

Controlling Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding and use of productivity applications in a realistic business environment. Topics include:

  • Microsoft Outlook
  • OneDrive
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneNote
  • Loop
  • Sway
  • SharePoint
  • Stream

The learning outcomes and competencies detailed in this course meet, or exceed the learning outcomes and competencies specified by the Kansas Core Outcomes Project for this course, as sanctioned by the Kansas Board of Regents.

  5. Explore additional productivity apps

UNIT 1: Explore Microsoft Outlook

Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to 

  • Create and send a new message
  • Reply, forward, delete messages
  • Change views
  • Use the reading pane
  • Open and save attachments
  • Print messages
  • Flag messages
  • Assign categories to messages
  • Create rules
  • Use Multiple Calendars
  • Customize Calendar options
  • Use advanced calendar features

UNIT 2:  Microsoft Teams

Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to

  • Explore how Teams can help colleagues come together through, chat, Teams, and Calendar.
  • Set up and customize your team
  • Collaborate in Teams
  • Work with posts and messages
  • Start Chats and Calls

UNIT 3: OneNote

Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to

  • Create a digital notebook
  • Find notes instantly
  • Organize pages into sections
  • Share notebook to collaborate with others

UNIT 4: OneDrive

Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to

  • Create a file management system
  • Backup important files
  • Use OneDrive on your desktop

UNIT 5: Additional Productivity Apps

Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit, the students will explore the functionality of:

  • Microsoft Loop
  • SharePoint
  • Sway
  • Stream

Projects Required:

Students will complete the required assignments

Computer/ Microsoft 365 Account (provided with a Cowley credentials)

Course Time Frame:

The U.S. Department of Education, Higher Learning Commission and the Kansas Board of Regents define credit hour and have specific regulations that the college must follow when developing, teaching and assessing the educational aspects of the college. A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally-established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. The number of semester hours of credit allowed for each distance education or blended hybrid courses shall be assigned by the college based on the amount of time needed to achieve the same course outcomes in a purely face-to-face format.
